It’s 5:30 am on Saturday morning, and I wake to a persistent knock.
“What is that?” I wondered. “What should I do? The question is, “What would YOU do?”
“Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the (door), you are sure to wake up somebody.”~ Henry Wadwsworth Longfellow
Every day, we all hear our knock. It’s not someone pounding on our door, but rather a reminder of what we have told ourselves is important.
Most of these stories start with “I want to….”
I want to lose weight. I want to be healthy. I want to be successful. I want a purple unicorn. Oh, and make it fluffy!
Ok, so the purple unicorn is a stretch, but certainly no more than ridiculous stories and excuses we tell ourselves every day.
Choose.
The goals and dreams we have for ourselves are easy to see. The bad news is, staying on task isn’t easy. There are times when we are tired. Times we struggle. Other times, we make dumb stuff up to just make ourselves feel better.
“Develop resilience and be brave. There are days when it is very discouraging. You have to develop personal resilience to environmental things that come along. If you let every single environmental challenge knock you off your game, its going to be very, very hard.” ~Renee James
The good news is there is only one thing that we must do at any given moment. Nothing else matters. The only thing that matters is the choice we make in that moment.
Choose.
Six months ago, I decided to answer my knock. And since then, I feel better, have much more energy, make better choices, and am stronger and leaner.
Today, I am tired. I am busy. And there is nothing I can do about that. But I can choose.
“Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done is always your choice.” ~Wayne Dyer
So, instead of wondering what to do, I took control. I answered my knock.
And you can too. Everything starts with one critical decision. Everything that you want bad enough can become reality. All you need to do is answer one question:
If life knocks, will you answer?
Choose.
